1. Introduction

Annotiq ("we", "us", or "our") is designed to be a private-by-default smart text highlighting and annotation tool. We take your privacy seriously. This policy describes how we handle information in the Annotiq Chrome extension.

2. Information Collection

Personal Information

Annotiq does NOT collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, physical address, or phone number.

Browsing Data

We do NOT track your browsing history. While the extension requires access to websites to enable highlighting, this data remains entirely on your local machine. We do not monitor which sites you visit.

Data Storage

All highlights, snippets, notes, and settings are stored locally on your device using the chrome.storage.local API. This data is never uploaded to our servers or any third-party cloud services.

3. Permissions Justification

To provide its core functionality, Annotiq requires the following permissions:

• storage: To save your research and notes locally.
• activeTab & scripting: To detect text selection and apply color highlights to the page you are viewing.
• contextMenus: To provide the "Add selection to notes" option in your right-click menu.
• all_urls (host permission): Optional/Broad access required to allow the highlighter to function on any website of your choice.

4. Data Security

Because your data is stored locally, its security is as strong as the security of your computer or device. We recommend using standard security practices (passwords, encryption) for your device to protect your local research database.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The latest version will always be available here.
